Problem w/DR-DOS 6.0 Taskmax

I am running DR-DOS 6.0 on a 386-33 with 8 MB RAM.  I have 4dos.com

configured as my primary shell in the config.sys.

When attempting to use Taskmax, I have the following problem:

I open the first task without problem, but on opening the second, I

get the error:

EMM386: Protection error at 884A:FFFF.

I do *not* get this error when command.com (DR-DOS) is the root

command processor.

Can anyone identify my problem and how I can fix it?

Thanks.

– Keith

4dos/ndos batch file enhancer/compiler

Yes, they did put NDOS.COM with Norton 7.0 again. This version of NDOS is the
same as 4DOS 4.02. But they didn’t put the BE-command in NDOS again. So it’s
back to the good old BE.EXE….

?:dos600+4dos

I do have problem.
I can not use DOS-SHELL in QuickBasic or any other program,
if I use this multiboot of DOS600 so that I have a possibility to
load either plain 4DOS or plain DOS600.
I do have it (basically) in CONFIG.SYS like this:
(Brackets and backslashes are because of my editor)

menuitem 4dos
menuitem dos600

(COMMON)
files=20
..
(4dos)
shell=C:/4dos/4dos.com /P /E:512

(dos600)
shell=C:/dos/command.com /p /E:512

In QBasic I tried this normal Alt-F-D and got a error-message.
WP51, WP42, Telnet, Kermit and FTP gave this same response.
They tried to go to secondary shell but failed and came back.

Everything was allright when I took off all that has something
to do with this dblboot.

What’s now folks ?

Getting hard drive serial number — please help

I know this isn’t a programming forum, but I need to get a problem solved
quickly and I know that 4dos does what I want…

I’m building an application that needs to grab the volume SERIAL NUMBER (not
the volume label) off of the hard drive it is currently executing on (in order
to create unique records in a database) from within C code. I’ve looked
through TONS of books (in the MicroSoft SDK) and can’t find anything that
helps.

I know that it is possible because I SEE the volume serial number of my
drive each time i do a DIR command in 4dos. If any of the people at
JP Software can throw some hints my way on how to accomplish this in
source code I would greatly appreciate it!!!! I’m not asking for the
source code to 4dos or 4os2, I would just like references to books or
FTP sites which have example code! You guys had to learn how to get the
vol-ser somewhere….:)

Any hints would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Incompatibility between 4dos and NetWare

I wonder if you have encountered this problem.
A network has been implemented on our campus. Whenever I try to enter our
library’s server the connection works ok, but after quitting I get a message
that some files (mostly bat files) are missing. The response to my next
instruction is a frozen system.
WHEN I FOLLOW THE SAME ROUTE USING THE DOS COMMAND.COM (instead of
being in 4dos) ALL WORKS SMOOTH!!
There seems to be an incompatibility between 4dos and the operation
of the server. May it be an incompatibility between 4dos and NetWare? Any
other ideas? Suggestions?

Switch to COMMAND.COM inside a bat file

Is there a way to switch to COMMAND.COM from a bat file AND continue
with a set of instructions?
I tried both including the COMMAND instruction in the bat file and
calling a bat file with the same instruction. In both cases I’m shelled to
DOS and the following instructions aren’t implemented.

command history exclusion

Hi!

I made some bad experiences when I just hit CursorUp-Enter when I wanted
to recall my last command, but then encountered that the one I was
thinking of was too short to be queued in history, and the last command
in history was a DELETE…      :-(

So, I am looking for a way to generally exclude commands (like delete)
from the history list. I think CED has such a feature.
In the manual, I can only find how to exclude a command once, but I did
not manage to generally exclude e.g. the DEL command. I tried something
like: ALIAS DEL @*DEL, but that did not work.

Any ideas? Maybe I just missed something in the manual.
Or will JP implement this as a feature in the future?

Thanks in advance.

This is where your problem lies. Thru a similar experience to your own, I
found out that WP Office 3.0 does not like an environment larger than ~1K.
That is, 1K of *used* environment space.

this is why the problem shows up only when you change the prompt. The pr5.btm
sets a very long prompt string into the environment, and you then exceed the
‘mystic’ 1K boundary. When that happens, WP Office will sooner or later crash
the system (sooner more often than later!)

I haven’t found any solution for this, except to keep my environment space
down when running WP Office.

pr6.btm

This is my version of the prompt posted here a little while ago.
The prompt is shown at the top of the screen and can fit in your
autoexec.bat without calling a btm.  UUDECODE is needed to
translate.
