Well, it is not like compiler… I mean, all it does is scramble and
compress batch files, they run at same speed as .BTMs :)

Suggestions for LIST and 4dos.ini

There’s only one significant feature in Vernon Buerg’s LIST that I
still use it for instead of 4DOS’s LIST: ^PgUp/^PgDn.  It’s often
useful to switch back and forth between two files (such as a source
code file and a file of failed `patch’ bands).  If 4DOS could keep a
similar circular buffer of the files to be displayed, I would be quite
content.  (There’s one insignificant feature I use on rare occasions,
the Alt-R ruler line toggle, but that’s just a bell or whistle.)

Also, I’m probably abusing the ColorDir option, because I’ve been
trying to find ways to squeeze more extensions into the 512 character
limit on 4dos.ini lines.  It would be nice if I could divide the line
into two or more parts, and keep adding extensions until DIR takes
half a minute to execute. :-)

A few Questions….

Hi All.

This question isnt really about 4DOS, but I figured you guys would be able
to answer these…

What is the difference between a .com file and a .exe file?

when DOS is searching for a executable file…what is the order that it
searches?  Is it .com then .exe then .bat ?

program priority

I am trying out 4dos version 5.0 (the shareware version), and it seems
that the priority of executing programs is

  .BAT -> .COM -> .EXE -> .BTM

is this an error?

I would think that it should be something like

  .BTM -> .BAT -> .COM -> .EXE

First bug found on 4dos 5.0 Rev. E

I found a minor bug on 4dos 5.0 rev E yesterday while using it under OS/2 2.1
The problem is that 4dos shows a description for the ".." directory, but
there are NO descript.ion file!!

In some directories, I have placed "Previous directory" for the ".." directory
(I did this with 4files 3.1, very nice program).  When I use 4dos under OS/2
4dos gets that description from somewhere (I havent found what dir yet) and
shows it when I type dir, this doesnt happend under MSDOS 6.2.  I tried making
another directories, but the bug is only for the ".." directory.

Is this a bug or a new feature?  This doesnt happened with 4dos5 rev D.
Before u ask, I did a dir /a and the directory is empty…no hidden files.

Where is this "New Revision"?

I looked on several sites and could not find Rev E of 4DOS 5.0.  I looked on
world.std.com but the directory /pub/vendors did not exist.  How can I
connect here via WWW or FTP to get the latest version?  Thanks,
Ryan
