Problems with ? "Prompt message" command

Command
 > ? "Run XYZ now" XYZ_PROG
should prompt as follows
 > Run XYZ now (Y/N)?
answering `Y’ should run XYZ_PROG, but I get
 > Run (Y/N)?
then on answering `Y’
 > Unknown command "XYZ"
In other words the second word of the prompting is taken as the
command to be run as if the quoting is being ignored/misinterpreted.
This seems to be new to 4dos 5.5 C (28).  In revision B I needed to
use a call command before the command-to-run or any additional command
on the line, ie delimited by ^ or %+, would not be run.

Please E-mail me if you know something.

Disappointment.

AB> I was relly disappointed when i tried for the first time the
AB>new command processor named 4dos. I heard so good things about this,
AB>that it was a real deception. Of course the alias system is new and
AB>is perhaps effective, but, I think, there is not enough difference,
AB>there is not enough new ideas, and it seems to be not enough "integrated"
AB> For example, you can’t create easily, with the mouse, windows.

I guess you didn’t discover the SELECT command, or all the added
options for COPY, MOVE,… or the file descriptions!

4D0S: An operating system?

So what do you fellows think about making 4D0S its own operating system?
Is this possible, or does 4D0S need COMMAND.COM to run programs?  If you
think of it, what does MS/PC-DOS offer that 4D0S does not?  Lets see:

Double Space —>nothing but trouble
Basic compiler —>Do you use yours?
FDISK

Otherwise, everything else can be obtained as PD.
ie:
ansi.sys, defrag, editor, shell program, mouse driver, virus scaner, emm386,
scandisk, memmaker and so on.

So do you think it is possible to make 4D0S its own operating system?

4DOS & Novell with 'COPY /U'

Has anyone out there had problems with 4DOS and copying from a Novell
network under Warp?  The specific problem is that only the first file from
a network directory is copied if the /U parameter is used.

This does not ALWAYS happen, but is frequent enough to be very annoying,
the most recent was a COPY /s that only copied one file from each
sub-directory.

This is with Novel 3.12.

Note that this only happens under OS/2 Warp.  It works fine under OS/2
2.1.

I’ve currently not had the problem with 4OS/2, but I don’t use that as
much.

We have version 5.5a of 4DOS and 2.5a of 4OS/2-32.

It also happens with MOVE… <g>

DrDebug

PS. Can someone tell me what, where, when and who the latest 4DOS & 4OS2
    files are please… Ta.

I use COPY /S all of the time under 4DOS & Warp & Novell 3.11 … with no

same.

I must admit though Ian,  having grown up with Novell since a very early
age,  I have become accustommed to running NCOPY /S.

Do both yours and dAL’s machines suffer the same syndrome ?

Yup, that’s a good one all right.. but you don’t even need to use the CD
command at all. To change my directory to "APPLIC" on drive D: all I need
to type is:

D:\APPLIC\

The ending backslash is very important! You can furthermore probably
reduce your typing by typing

D:\A

and then pressing the TAB key until you see the proper directory!

Another good related aliase is setting BB (back back) to "CD -". By
repeatibly typing BB you can toggle between two working directories/drives.

P.S. I reserve "B" to mean "CD ..". Enjoy!

Remove line in file

Hey all! This is a GRRREAT group!
One small quiz:
I need to remove a line from a file. Like this:
echo %@line[file,0]
remline[file,0]  // line 0 in the file is removed, and all lines are
                 // moved up
I need it to make a fit.btm file to fit files on a floppy.
The point is to be able to continue to copy files another time (next week..
or so) if the size of the files exceed (hm) the free diskspace
