Protext/Prodata Rescue & Re-release

Hi, all!

Long-time users of the DOS word processor Protext may like to know my
partner and I have rescued it and the database program with the same
"look and feel" called Prodata. As well as the PC version, we have also
re-released the Atari and Amstrad versions.

We have re-issued them in revised/updated versions with wholly revised
documentation with participation and help from the original programmers,
who used to work for their first publisher, Arnor Ltd.

As we are not a bunch of money-grubbing crooks, but rather knowledgeable
users and enthusiasts for the programs who would prefer to keep them
published and supported, we have reissued all versions at very reduced
prices.

User support without premium phone line rates is included.

Rather than dump a large text file down the line each time we get an
enquiry, we have produced a comprehensive printed information pack,
which is easier on the eyes and free on application, if you can send your
postal address to me at either:

Bug in Ctrl-F alias expansion?

When Ctrl-F is used to expand an alias (in 4DOS 6.00B), any asterisk
at the beginning of the alias definition is omitted.

[DOSApps] in TCMD.INI

Does anyone know what the following lines from my tcmd.ini file mean:

[DOSApps]
C:\DOS\SCANDISK.EXE=1

I couldn’t find anything on it in the help file. Are they defining
whether the program runs in a dos-box or Caveman? I seem to recall
reading somewhere that dos-box apps could be defined somehow in
tcmd.ini.

Thanks for your help.

CMDLINE-Bug in 4OS2 V3 ?

I think I’ve found a bug in 4OS2 v.3.

If I first call a program prog1.exe:
[D:]prog1 some_arguments

and then call a pipe with a program prog2.exe:
[D:] dir | prog2 other_arguments"

then the prog2 has in its environment the variable CMDLINE set to
"prog1 some_argument" instead of "prog2 other_arguments"

Due to the software available to me I could only check this for an
emx-compiled prog2. (prog1 can be any external program).
Can somebody with another compiler confirm or refute it?

A test program which gives the described result is:
=== cut
/* prog2.c */
#include <stdio.h>
#include <string.h>

int main(int argc, char *argv[], char* envp[])
{
   int i;
   for(i=0; ;i++){
      if( envp[i] == (char *)0 ) break;
      printf("%s\n", envp[i]);
   }

   return 0;
}

=== cut

ver gives the following output:
 4OS2 3,00B   OS/2 Version is 3,00

Suggestion for ffind

Suggestion for the internal command FFIND:

Copied from DOS’  FIND command
/V        Displays all lines NOT containing the specified string.

replace with

/V        Displays all files NOT containing the specified string.

Ok, /V is already in use, but… :-)
