setlocal to crash keyboard thread?

Hello!

I did a little btm earlier, and incredibly enough it was killing the keyboard
thread, or so it seemed.

It went something like this:

————
@echo off
setlocal
ping yada.yada.org > nul
iff %? == 1 then set yada=on
else
set yada=on
endiff

pause yada is %yada%line
——-

Well, I did a little shortcut for this, and by default it close the window
automatically when finishes, why I used "pause" and not just echo.

Anyway, I had to remove "setlocal" (wasn’t needed anyway in this case, just
have a habit of throwing it in there after @echo off) and the problem went
away.

I was using win98, 4dos 6.02. I don’t want to really ask anyone to try it,
but it seems to _work_ everytime, on the 2 pc I had access to anyway.

I checked jpsoft.com bugs list, and didn’t find it there…

Anyone knows what’s going in on?

Help For Lanmaneger

I am very confused how to setup LanManeger on MS-DOS system.
The DOMEIN into the Lanman.ini might have less than 15 characters.
My DOMEIN is over 15 characters such as 1111111.222.33.44.
In case of Windows, There is setting part for DNS in control panel. And
setting items are "HOST", "DOMEIN"and "DNS IP ADDRESS".
I would like to know relationship between above DOMEIN and setting portion
of case of Windows.
If It should input DOMEIN which case of Windows into DOMEIN of Lanman.ini,
As writing above, I got error caused by over 15 characters.
Is it possible to input DNS IP into their?

Next question is what are the HOST file and the LMHOST file.
If I would like to connect another PC until router, Not need to input
something into the LMHOST file?
If I would like to connect another PC until router, Should I need to input
IP address into the HOST file?

Somebody tells me!!

using COM ports

HELP

Does anyone know how to run a DOS program that uses a COM port in a Win 98
environment.  Problem is that every time I try to run it I get an error that
says: "can’t find IRQ line for serial port 1".  My serial port 1 is the one
that is available for use.  I’ve tried deleting the port from the device
manager, but that does not work either.

Feature request

I *regularly* need to move files to a directory that may contain files
with the same name. I do *not* want the files copied if they already
exist in the destination directory. I can’t use /R, because I need this
to run in an unattended batch file. Nor can I use /U, because it’ll
overwrite "older" files.

Here’s the sort of thing I have to do now:

for %a in (*.avi) do if not exist o:\graphics\avi\%a move %a o:\graphics\avi

This is *considerably* slower than a regular move, *especially* for
files with descriptions. And I’m still working out how to make it work
with long file names containg things like spaces and "special"
characters.

For example, I can see *no* way to make it work if the name contains a
% char.

A new switch for move that only moved files that didn’t already exist
in the destination directory would be *greatly* appreciated!

No upper memory!

When I go into a dos box in win3.1 to run 4dos, I get two messages
that the resident and the other part of 4dos could not be loaded in
Upper Memory.  Sure enough when I run Mem, it says I have no upper
memory, even though I did when I paused at DOS to check.

Similarly in win 98.  I have himem and emm386 and dos=high, umb in the
autoexec but it says I have no high memory.
