Did you compare the speed of it with the widely available ‘gnuish’
du?  I mean, is it worth it to reinvent the wheel?

     No, it’s not comparable in speed, but it’s fast enough for my
     purposes. Actually, 4dos’s DIR makes all the work and du.btm only
     selectively displays the output lines. As a .btm, it can be easily
     customized, and since it passes most of it’s parameters to DIR,
     the same wildcard- etc. operations are valid as for DIR command.

     Compatibility (or even likeness) with unix du wasn’t my goal here.
